Agilent ZORBAX Extend-C18 columns use a bidentate C18 stationary phase developed for reversed-phase separations across a broad pH range. The combination of propylene-bridged bidentate-C18 bonding and double endcapping protects the ultrapure Type B silica support against dissolution under high-pH conditions. This chemistry is particularly suitable for the separation of highly basic compounds as free bases and can also be used at low and intermediate pH.

Standard ZORBAX Extend-C18 packing is produced by bonding a dense monolayer of propylene-bridged bidentate-C18 silane to ultra-high purity ZORBAX Rx-SIL porous silica. The silica surface is additionally deactivated by double endcapping to reduce strong adsorption of basic and highly polar compounds. Uniform spherical particles are packed using a high-pressure slurry-loading technique to provide a stable and consistent column bed.

ZORBAX 300Extend-C18 combines the Extend bidentate C18 chemistry with fully porous 300 Å wide-pore ZORBAX particles. The larger pore structure provides a separate Extend-C18 configuration while retaining the broad pH 2.0–11.5 operating range of the bidentate bonded phase.
