Agilent PLRP-S Polymer HPLC Columns

Agilent PLRP-S HPLC columns use a highly cross-linked, rigid polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) copolymer as the reversed-phase stationary phase. Unlike silica-based reversed-phase materials, the PLRP-S particle is inherently hydrophobic and does not require bonded groups. The polymeric structure provides broad chemical and thermal stability for demanding reversed-phase LC applications.

The spherical, macroporous PS-DVB particles maintain their structure when changing between aqueous and organic mobile phases without swelling or shrinking. Because the stationary phase contains no silica, it is also free from residual silanol groups that can cause secondary interactions with basic compounds and amines.

PLRP-S media are available in different particle sizes (3 µm, 5 µm, 8 µm, 10 µm, 15–20 µm and 30–50 µm) and different pore sizes (100 Å, 300 Å, 1000 Å and 4000 Å) for analytical and preparative chromatography. The consistent polymer chemistry allows methods to be transferred from analytical screening to larger-scale purification while maintaining the same fundamental stationary-phase selectivity.
