Our Carbon Footprint – Transparency for a Sustainable Future

Development of Greenhouse Gas Emissions 2024–2025

Following the initial assessment of the company-wide carbon footprint in 2024, a renewed inventory was conducted in 2025 to systematically analyze changes in the emissions structure and to transparently present the development of greenhouse gas emissions. The calculation continues to be based on the internationally recognized methodological guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol for corporate greenhouse gas accounting. Total emissions of BGB Analytik AG amounted to 60.83 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents (CO₂e) in 2025, which is lower than the previous year’s figure (62.99 tonnes CO₂e in 2024). This corresponds to a reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 3.4%.

Development of Emissions by Scope

Scope 1 – Direct Emissions

Direct greenhouse gas emissions from stationary combustion processes, such as heating systems, remained largely stable during the reporting period. In 2025, they amounted to 12.13 tonnes CO₂e, compared to 12.04 tonnes CO₂e in 2024. Emissions from mobile combustion processes, particularly from company vehicle use, decreased slightly from 0.56 tonnes CO₂e in 2024 to 0.45 tonnes CO₂e in 2025.

Scope 2 – Indirect Emissions from Purchased Energy

Indirect emissions from purchased electricity were significantly reduced during the reporting period. They decreased from 11.33 tonnes CO₂e in 2024 to 9.41 tonnes CO₂e in 2025. This development represents a key contribution to the reduction of overall greenhouse gas emissions.

Scope 3 – Other Indirect Emissions Along the Value Chain

The largest share of accounted emissions continues to stem from the procurement of packaging materials. In 2025, this category generated 41.27 tonnes CO₂e, compared to 40.36 tonnes CO₂e in 2024. Emissions from waste disposal continue to show negative values, which are attributable to emission credits from recycling and material recovery processes. These amounted to –2.44 tonnes CO₂e in 2025, compared to –1.29 tonnes CO₂e in the previous year.

Carbon Footprint

Evaluation of Results

The analysis of emissions development shows that, in particular, the reduction of energy related emissions and improvements in waste management have contributed to the decrease in total emissions. At the same time, it is evident that procurement processes, especially those related to packaging materials, continue to represent the largest share of the company’s carbon footprint.

Outlook and Future Development

BGB Analytik AG will continue the regular assessment and analysis of its greenhouse gas inventory in order to systematically identify emission sources and implement evidence-based emission reduction measures. In the long term, continuous improvements in the areas of energy efficiency, resource use, procurement, and circular economy are expected to further reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emissions.
